Communication

We used to scribble on paper scrolls
And chiselled figures on a wall
With a stick we drew on sand
And even signalled with our hands.

With smoke we talked across the hills
And wrote letters with inks and quills.
As soldiers waved their flags in battle
The Scotsman blew his worthy bugle.

Mighty Morse took his code to flight
With the telegram putting a worthy fight.
A postcard sent was a quicky hello
An airmailed letter was unusually slow.

Fast-forward now to the telephone
To the facsimile that required a tone;
Leap-frogged the pager to the cellular phone
With Internet, communication's still a long way home.
